It’s the unknown around every corner, new scenery, and forever winding tracks, uphill and downhill. What a place to go, what a privilege for the ones that live here.
Start to Main Saddle 5 km (one way) This ride starts from the parking area along the main road and gently sidles down to the river. Cross the bridge and follow the track in an easy climb to the woolshed (no access). The farm track steadily climbs on from here to the main saddle. You will have fantastic views over the Kaikoura Ranges here, all the way from Mt Lyford down to Kaikoura.
Main Saddle to Historic huts 4km (one way). From the saddle, it is a steady downhill to the turn off to the advanced track. If you prefer to stick to the intermediate track choose to continue down to the Historic Huts (no access)
Forestry Block 2x no exit tracks – 6 km – 15 km. Time and distance is up to you. It is a one way so you have to cycle the same track out. Make sure you have enough energy left to cycle back to the main saddle.
